Episode  51: Observing the Trot

Observing and evaluating your horse's trot is a useful skill to observe soundness and posture. In this episode we explain what to look for when assessing your horse’s trot, both ridden and unridden.

We’ll also explore:

  • The role of the core, back, and neck in creating lightness and suspension
  • How scapula and pelvic motion influence stride length and balance
  • Signs of a poor trot, including having a braced neck
  • Key observations when travelling in straight lines vs circles

Key takeaways: focus on head and neck position, spine stability, and pelvic motion to distinguish between a horse moving with ease versus one compensating under tension.
